JAMMU, Jan 11: In a joint operation, the District Administration Jammu today dismantled 17 structures and retrieved about 41 Kanals of prime JDA land at Sector No.6, in Upper Roop Nagar area of Jammu North.

Assisted by strong contingent District Police, led by SP North Jammu, Kulbir Honda, SDM North- Pawan Kotwal and under the close supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Ghansham Singh and Vice Chairman JDA, Pankaj Mangotra, the teams amidst strong resistance from the land grabbers, especially their women folk, managed to retrieve 41 kanals of land worth crores, falling between Janipur Colony and eastern part of Upper Roop Nagar Colony. Some families had raised tin structures and kept their cattle illegally for the last more than 2-3 decades there.
The operation started at around 9 am and continued successfully till evening. Over 80% of the retrieved area was also fenced simultaneously during operation. The women of these families created obstacles during operation and also laid before the JCBs/ machines but the lady police deployed there removed them from the site. Tehsildar North Jammu, Jai Singh, Tehsildar JDA and Samridhi Sharma besides two Naib Tehsildars had to face tough time while convincing the families to stay away from Government land. Even the violent family members tried to manhandle Tehsildar JDA and a Naib Tehsildar. This land falls under Khasra number 1193 and 1206.
Additional DC Jammu, Ghansham Singh when contacted said that this major anti-encroachment drive was jointly launched by the District Administration, Police & JDA at Sector-06, Roop Nagar, Tehsil Jammu North and the encroached land falling under khasra No. 1193 and 1206 was retrieved during over six hour long operation. Though there was some resistance from the encroachers but over all, it was successful drive.
Singh said he himself and VC JDA were on the spot and leading the operation. During the drive, about 17 Pacca/Kacha structures raised on the Govt land were also demolished and removed. He said there is total 46 Kanals of JDA land as per record, 41 Kanal of it has been retrieved and remaining will also be cleared shortly. Over 80 % of the retrieved land was fenced by the JDA team on the spot. The police has been deployed there and entire Government land will be cleared within days, he added.
Besides SP North, Kulbir Honda, DySPs Shabir Ahmed Khan and Sajjad Ahmed also assisted.
