JAMMU, Dec 30: Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur, R S Jain today awarded four years rigorous imprisonment to Jeet Singh, who was facing trial in attack on police.
After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge observed, “no leniency can be shown to persons who have no respect for law and order and consider themselves to be un-amenable to the laws created for an orderly society”.
“A person like the accused in the present case who does not hesitate to take the law into his hands does not deserve any leniency and any indulgence by the court under these circumstances, can be misplaced”, Principal Sessions Judge said, adding “the action of the accused if left unpunished would send a signal to the society that the persons who can attack a police force can very well spread terror in society”.
“The law and order situation has been deteriorating in the country in the recent past. Instances of young person getting involved in criminal activities are also on the rise. Undue sympathy, under these circumstances, to impose inadequate sentence, would do more harm to the justice system and undermine the public confidence in the efficacy of law”, the court said.
With these observations, court awarded four years RI under Section 333 RPC (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) to Jeet Singh.
