4 women, unknown person among 8 die of COVID in Jammu, 265 test +ve

JAMMU, June 12: Eight persons including four women and an unknown person died and 265 tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu region today while the authorities with a view to check rush at tourist resorts of Patnitop and Sanasar have ordered that only those persons with confirmed booking of hotels and testing negative for the virus will be allowed to proceed ahead from Chenani on weekends.
Of eight deaths, four were women including one who left the hospital and died at home in Gandoh area of Doda district. Three casualties took place in Rajouri district, two in Doda and one each in Jammu, Poonch and Samba districts.
As there was heavy rush of tourists at Patnitop and Sanasar especially on weekends, the authorities have ordered that only those tourists who have confirmed booking of hotels either on their emails, WhatsApp or other modes of communication will be allowed to cross Chenani naka in Udhampur district.
The tourists will also be subjected to Rapid Antigen Testing at Chenani and only those testing negative will be allowed to leave for tourist destinations while those found infected will be treated as per COVID protocol, official sources told the Excelsior.
CEO Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) Thakur Sher Singh told the Excelsior that COVID protocol is being maintained at the tourist spot fully.
Chenani Police Station teams headed by SHO Charanjeet Singh have laid special naka at Chenani to subject tourists heading towards Patnitop and Sanasar to checking for hotel booking and COVID testing.
Meanwhile, around 50-year-old unknown person who was shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu by the police as brought dead tested positive for COVID-19. He was cremated as per COVID protocol.
A 75-year-old woman hailing from Kandlo Gandoh in Doda district, who was co-morbid and positive for pathogen, left the Community Health Centre (CHC) Gandoh where she was admitted. She died at home. A 72-year-old woman from Sarafa Mohalla Bhaderwah succumbed to the virus at CHC Bhaderwah.
A 67-year-old woman belonging to village Rara in Gho Brahamna area of Ramgarh in Samba district breathed her last at IVY Hospital Amritsar. She was positive for Coronavirus.
Three COVID casualties took place in Rajouri district. They include an 80-year-old man from Mangiote who passed away at GMC Rajouri, a 62-year-old man from Dandesar, who breathed his last at DMC Ludhiana and 70-year-old male from Sarya who died at Army Hospital Rajouri.
A 62-year-old woman from Kandi Gulhutta in Poonch district also died of COVID Pneumonia at GMC Rajouri.
Eight fresh casualties have taken Jammu region’s Corona toll to 2030. Maximum 1115 deaths have occurred in Jammu district followed by 203 in Rajouri, 147 Kathua, 131 Udhampur, 117 Samba, 96 Doda, 83 Poonch, 58 Ramban, 41 Reasi and 39 in Kishtwar district.
First case of black fungus was today reported in Samba district. He was a 55-year-old man hailing from Jakh Vijaypur in Samba district the Mucormycosis victim has been shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment.
Meanwhile, out of 265 persons who tested positive for the virus in Jammu region, 50 hailed from Ramban district, 45 Doda, 34 Jammu, 32 Rajouri, 29 Poonch, 20 each in Samba and Reasi, 18 Udhampur, 12 Kathua and five in Kishtwar district.
As against 265 new cases, 707 persons recovered from the virus today, the highest 327 in Jammu district, 87 Rajouri, 78 Doda, 63 Ramban, 42 Samba, 38 Udhampur, 33 Kishtwar, 25 Reasi and 14 in Kathua district.
Jammu region now has 1,16,763 Coronavirus cases. Among them, 6022 are active positive cases while 1,08,711 have recovered from the virus and there have been 2030 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 31 COVID positive cases including 20 in Leh and 11 in Kargil district. However, no Corona casualty was reported from the UT today.
Ladakh’s Corona count today stood at 19506 including 796 active positives and 18513 recoveries besides 197 fatalities—143 in Leh and 54 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Chairman DDMA Leh Shrikant Suse, today notified new SOPs/guidelines applicable from June 14 to 21 for the gradual unlocking of restrictions in Leh district.
The District Administration Leh has amended the previous roster prepared regarding commercial activities. Groceries/ general stores, fruits/ vegetable/ milk products, meat/ chicken shops, nanwai and bakeries would be allowed to open on all days of the week from 7 am to 1 pm. Hardware shops and stores dealing with construction materials and vehicles needed for their transportation would also be allowed to open on all days from 5 pm to 9 am.
Commercial establishments, including readymade garments/ shoe, tailoring, home furnishing, workshop/ service, tyre stations, spare part repair, automobile shops, travel and tour/ ticket booking agencies, mobile repair, electronic appliances, IT and computer shops, dish TV, recharge shops/kiosks, printing press, photo-state, stationeries/ book/sports/gift shops, cosmetic, souvenir/art shops and jewellery/goldsmiths, would be allowed to open Monday to Friday from 1 pm till 7 pm.
As per the new SOPs/ guidelines, the District Administration would allow barbershops/ beauty parlours/ salons and wine shops to open on the weekend, i.e Saturday and Sunday, from 9 am to 7 pm. Restaurants would be allowed to operate for home delivery and take-away services on all the days from 8 am to 8 pm. The dine-in services at restaurants would continue to remain closed as earlier. Hotels can provide room services and operate their dine-in facilities for in-house guests only with 30% seating capacity.
The non-essential vehicular movement would be allowed to move on an odd/even system with 50% seating capacity. Vehicles with registration number ending with an odd number (1,3,5,7,9) would be allowed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, whereas vehicles with even numbers (0,2,4,6,8,) would be allowed to operate on the remaining days, such as Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
The new SOPs allows e-commerce services to operate, irrespective of odd/even restrictions, from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 4 pm. However, public transport and spa/gyms would continue to remain closed.
