4 poppy peddlers arrested

SRINAGAR, July 24: Police today claimed to have arrested a peddler and recovered 159 Kgs of Poppy straw and 11 logs of illegal timber from three persons in separate incidents in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday evening.
A police spokesman said police intercepted a LP Truck JK02AL/5979 and during its search recovered 159 kgs of poppy strew.
The truck driver Rashi Kumar son of Mani Lal of Satwari Jammu has been arrested. And FIR number 169/14 under Section 15/18 NDPS has been filed and investigation is ongoing.
In another incident, police intercepted a Tata 407 Jk03C/7601 at Chawalgam, Bypass in Kulgam and recovered 11 logs of Kail timber.
The spokesman said three accused Mubark Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar of Pumby Kakran, Shah Nawaz Ahmad son of Mohammed Yosuf Dar of Yaroo Noor Abad and Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Kharwatt have been arrested. An FIR number 170/2014 under Section 379 RPC and 6 Forest Act has been filed and investigation is ongoing.
