SRINAGAR, Nov 26: Police today arrested three militant associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Ansar Gazwatul Hind (AGH) in two separate operations in Kashmir.
A police spokesman said that on 25th November during joint Naka checking and patrolling with 13 SIKHLI, 185 Bn BSF and Baramulla Police at Kalgai near Jhula foot Bridge intercepted two suspected persons coming from Kamalkote towards National Highway carrying bags.
The duo was identified as Zameer Ahmad Khanday son of Azeem Khanday, resident of Madiyan Kamalkote and Mohammad Naseem Khanday son of Abdul Majeed Khanday, resident of Madiyan Kamalkote.
The spokesman said during search 3 Chinese grenades and cash worth Rs 2.5 lakhs were recovered from them. “A case FIR under relevant Sections of law was registered in Police Station Uri,” he said.
“During sustained questioning both the accused disclosed that these illegally acquired grenades and cash have been provided to them by one Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti son of Karam Din Bhatti, resident of Madiyan Kamalkote so that they could execute any terrorist act,” he said.
The spokesman said that Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti was picked up for questioning during which he disclosed that he has supplied these grenades and cash to these persons for carrying out militant attacks and has also kept one hand grenade and cash at a location known to him near his house.
“Upon his disclosure, one Chinese hand grenade and cash worth Rs 2.17 lakhs was recovered. He was also arrested in the instant case. Further investigation is going on,” read the statement.
In the meantime, a militant associate belonging to Ansar Guzwatul Hind (AGH) oufit was arrested in Shopian district today.
A police spokesman said that on 26th November, police along with Army (44 RR) & CRPF (14th Bn) at a checkpoint established at Habdipora Shopian Crossing, intercepted a suspected person who was coming from Kundalan towards Shopian. He has been identified as Farman Khursheed Wani son of Khursheed Ahmad Wani resident of Gagren Shopian.
The spokesman further stated that during search, incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one pistol, two pistol magazines, 10 rounds of 9mm Caliber and a mobile Phone were recovered from his possession,” he added.
“During preliminary questioning, the arrested militant associate disclosed that he is working as an associate of banned outfit AGH and was supposed to carry out attacks on security forces in the district”, read the statement.
“Regarding the incident, a case vide FIR No.194/23 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Shopian and investigation of the case has been initiated”, read the statement further.
