POONCH, June 6: Four persons were killed while seven others injured, some of them seriously when a Tata Sumo vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a nallah in Khanetar area of district Poonch this afternoon.
A police spokesman said that the accident took place when the vehicle bearing registration number JK-12/ 3777 was on its way to Khanetar Top from Khanetar village about 15 kms from here. About a dozen persons were on board the vehicle including the driver. The road of the area is not good and the vehicle was over speeding, the victims said.
At a sharp curve, en-route Khanetar Top, the driver lost control on the vehicle and it rolled down into a deep nallah. The driver jumped away from the moving vehicle and escaped from the spot with minor injuries.
Immediately after the mishap, people of the area rushed to the site. The police from Poonch also reached there along with an ambulance. The locals and police rescued the injured persons and shifted them to District Hospital, Poonch.
While three persons were killed on the spot, fourth one succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. The deceased were later identified as Mohd Rashid (41), son of Sher Mohammed; Mohd Sharief (72), son of Mir Mohammed; Sabina Kouser (27), wife of Mohd Bashir and Rubina Kouser (22), wife of Mohd Akbar-all residents of Khanetar Top. Their dead bodies were handed over to the families after postmortem at Poonch hospital.
The seven injured admitted to District Hospital Poonch were identified as Mohd Bashir, son of Sher Mohammed; Tasleem Akhtar, wife of Mohd Yaqoob; Ashiya, daughter of Mohd Yaqoob; Sher Mohd, son of Taj Mohammed; Zulfa Bi, wife of Mohd Bashir; Fozia Kouser, daughter of Mohd Bashir and Mohd Khalid, son of Mohd Faiz, all hailing from Khanetar village. The police has registered a case against the driver.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of four persons in a tragic road accident in the border district of Poonch today.
She conveyed her heart-felt sympathies to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. She wished speedy recovery to the injured.

Mehbooba conveyed her sympathies to the families of four persons including three women who were killed in a separate road accidents near Samba on Jammu-Pathankot highway on Saturday.
Expressing concern over the increasing fatalities in road accidents, Mehbooba directed that all the concerned enforcement agencies to sternly deal with cases of overloading and other traffic violations.
She particularly urged the DGP and IGP Traffic to enforce stringent measures to check overloading of transport vehicles and over-speeding.
