4 dead in Mendhar mishap

POONCH, Aug 13:  Four persons were killed while seven others seriously injured when a Tata Sumo vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge in Gursai area of Poonch in Mendhar Sub Division this evening.
Giving details, a police official said that the mishap took place at around 7 pm when the ill-fated vehicle No. JK02AC/0074 was on its way to Mendhar from Surankote. Near Gursai Morh, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled down into nearly 300 feet deep gorge, resulting into on the spot death of one of the passengers.
Immediately after the mishap, police team  from Gursai police station rushed to the spot. The locals ran towards the accident site for rescue operation. All the injured were brought on the road from gorge. The first deceased was identified as Liaqat Hussain, son of Khadam Hussain, resident of Gursai.
While three injured were sent to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar and seven others to Surankote hospital. Two seriously injured succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. They were identified as Nissar Hussain Shah from Gursai and Health Department employee, Koushal Kanta, wife of Madan Mohan, resident of Draba in Surankote. She was posted at SDH Mendhar.
One more seriously injured  being shifted from Surankote to District Hospital Rajouri, succumbed to injuries near Manjakote. He was identified as Khursheed Ahmed, son of Mohd Aslam, resident of Gursai. Police said it has taken cognizance of the matter.
