4 arrested in journalist assault case

SRINAGAR, July 24: Police today arrested four people in connection with thrashing a journalist in Bemina area of Srinagar district.
A Police official said that yesterday night, Shabraiz Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Hamdanya Colony Bemina, correspondent with the News Now, lodged a written complaint to the effect that on July 23, he was thrashed by four unknown persons at Bemina Chowk who fled away from the spot in a white Swift vehicle.
The police spokesman stated that the assault resulted in injuries to Shabriaz. “In this regard Case FIR No. 71/22 U/S 341,323 IPC was registered in Police Station Bemina and investigation taken up,” he said.
During the course of investigation efforts were made to trace out the accused and with CCTV footage it was analysed. The investigation led to the arrest of 4 persons, identified as Iqbal Saleem, son of Mohammad Saleem, resident of Hajjiabad Bemina; Mohmmad Qasim, son of Manzoor Ahmed Dar, resident of Ferdous Colony Bemina; Imran Manzoor, son of Manzoor Ahmed Badyri, resident of Mansoor Colony, Bemina and Jahanger Ahmed Khan, son of Farooq Ahmad Khan, resident of Ferdous Abad, Batmaloo.
“Prima facie the case seems to be of road-rage. The investigation of the case is going on and further evidence is being collected. Srinagar Police assures citizens that all such cases will be investigated with full professionalism,” the spokesman stated.
