PM returns from Africa, reviews Kashmir situation

NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived back home this morning after his four-nation tour of Africa, took stock of the situation in Kashmir where clashes between protestors and security forces in the wake of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani have resulted in the death of around 30 people.
The Prime Minister was briefed by his senior Cabinet Minister on the developments in the valley. Home Minister Rajnath Singh had yesterday reviewed the situation in the valley and also reached out to the Opposition parties. He has spoken to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and National Conference chief Omar Abdullah.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has described the Prime Minister’s visit to Africa as ” deeply meaningful and productive”. The tour led Mr Modi to Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya.
The Prime Minister held wide ranging talks with leaders of these countries and concluded several agreements, further boosting developmental and security cooperation with these countries. He also visited several places associated with Gandhiji in South Africa, and described his visit to the country which has been ”karmabhoomi” of the father of the nation as a ”pilgrimage”.
Mr Modi addressed the Indian diaspora in these countries and gave them an update about the country’s journey on the path of development and invited them to become a fellow traveler.
The Prime Minister also gave out a strong message against terrorism and ideologies of hate during the visit and sought cooperation of countries of the continent, the world at large to fight the threat to humanity. (AGENCIES)
