SRINAGAR: Announcing that there is no proposal to establish new colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar today said instead the Government intended to develop and upgrade existing infrastructure of the colleges in the State.
Intervening during the Question Hour on a question of Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, the Minister said the Department intends to equip the existing 95 Government degree colleges (GDCs) with all necessary infrastructure including buildings, laboratories, libraries to make them fully functional. He informed that three degree colleges have been set up at Thatri, Chatroo and Marwah.
Earlier, Minister of State for Education Priya Sethi informed that land for the establishment of Degree College has been identified in Thatri and construction will be started soon. She informed that the college was established in 2011 and was made functional in the same year in makeshift accommodation.
She informed that an amount of Rs 1 crore has been projected under Draft Capex Budget 2016-17 for taking up construction work of the college building. Regarding GDC Chatroo, the Minister informed that land measuring 73 Kanals and 1 Marla has been acquired against the total compensation of Rs 1.32 crore. (AGENCIES)
