SRINAGAR, July 23: Member State Wakf Council and Ex-MLC, Dr Shehnaz Ganai called on K. Skandan Advisor to Governor J&K state on Monday and raised many issues pertaining to the public of district Poonch for consideration and early redressal.
Besides other issues, she strongly emphasized for the timely construction of bunkers along Poonch LoC by Rural Development Department as the people residing near LoC are exposed to danger of shelling from across the border. Dr Ganai said that the timely completion of bunkers will make the lives of LoC residents safer.
Expressing grave concern over the allocation of only 1300 to 1400 bunkers that include community and individual for District Poonch, Dr Ganai asked the Advisor that the matter needs to be looked into again because of the fact that there are more than 38000 people of district Poonch who reside very close to LoC and destruction and damage to their lives and property is high as such as compared to other border districts of the state.
Dr Shehnaz told the Advisor that highest number of casualties have been witnessed during the last five years across the LoC in District Poonch and the risk of the human lives and the livestock is much higher and thus the sanction of more bunkers as such becomes necessary. She said over the years it has been observed that Poonch has seen discriminated on the developmental front and also for sanction of flagship Government schemes, Ganai said.
She also drew the attention of Advisor towards opening of first aid centers for Animal Sheep Husbandry Department, establishment of Handloom and Handicrafts centers, disposal of the pending compensation cases of the victims of ceasefire violation in district Poonch.
