India to achieve massive reduction in nitrogen oxide with BS-VI norms

NEW DELHI : India will achieve substantial reduction in pollutants from vehicles after leapfrogging to BS-VI norms. BS-VI emission norms for various categories of vehicles will come into force from April 1, 2020.
According to government, investment requirement for migration to BS-VI by April 1, 2020 for gasoline works out to be about Rs 20,000 crore and for diesel, it is estimated to be Rs 60,000 crore, as per the Auto Fuel Vision and Policy-2025.
In terms of emission benefits, after switching to BS-VI, the maximum benefit will be with respect to diesel based heavy duty vehicles, wherein 88.5 per cent reduction in oxides of Nitrogen and 50 per cent reduction in Particulate Matter (PM) is estimated. In case of gasoline based passenger cars, the estimated reduction in oxides of nitrogen will be 25 per cent, the government said. (AGENCIES)
