UDHAMPUR, July 19: Udhampur Police foiled a narcotics smuggling bid by recovering a huge quantity of psychotropic substance ‘poppy straw’, which was being smuggled in an oil tanker.
Police arrested driver of the oil tanker, bearing Registration number HR37E-6227, which was coming from Srinagar towards Jammu and smuggling more than 344 kgs of poppy straw.
The tanker was intercepted at naka point Zero Morh, Chenani by a police team of Police Station Chenani, led by SHO Pushpinder Singh. During the search, 23 bags containing 344.1 kgs of poppy straw were recovered from the tanker.
On preliminary inquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Harpreet Singh, son of Surjit Singh of Jastana Khurd, Dera Bassi Mohalla Punjab.
Police arrested the accused and seized the vehicle as well as the poppy straw. In this connection, a case FIR NO. 118/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in P/S Chenani.
