33 test positive for dengue

JAMMU, Oct 7: About 33 people were found to be affected with dengue in Jammu region, this season.
“The first case of dengue from the Jammu region came to light last month. The patient was a 6-year-old child identified as Aslam son of Mohd Salim, resident of Kot Bhalwal in Jammu district”, a health official said.
He said till date blood samples of 3331 people having dengue-like symptoms were tested for the dengue virus out of which only 33 were found positive.
“Out of these 33 dengue patients, 16 alone are from Jammu district, 11 from Kathua district, 3 from Samba, 1 from Udhampur and 2 from Doda district”, the health official said.
He said that no serious case has so far been reported and majority of the patients suffering from the disease were discharged from various hospitals after successful treatment.
A health advisory has been issued by the Centre which has been widely published in local dailies to create awareness among people about the disease, he further said, adding, people need to take precautions to save themselves from mosquito bites.
The health department claimed that they are fully equipped to treat patients suffering from dengue, adding that no hospital in the region has so far received any patient whose sickness has taken dangerous proportion.
