SRINAGAR, May 7: Police today seized 33 LPG cylinders from the possession of a man who was intending to sell the same at exorbitant prices.
In a statement issued here, police said that the Police Station Sumbal received specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Farooq Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Nabi Wani resident of Shadipora Sumbal has hoarded domestic LPG Gas cylinders in his courtyard to sell them at exorbitant rates to the general public.
“On receiving this information, a police party from Police Station Sumbal led by SHO PS Sumbal under the supervision of SDPO Sumbal raided the said location,” police said.
It said that during the search, officers were able to seize 33 domestic LPG Gas cylinders and subsequently arrested the accused person involved in the commission of the crime. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused person was selling the domestic LPG gas cylinders to the general public of the area on exorbitant rates taking the advantage of the lockdown,” police said.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 57/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sumbal and investigation into the matter has been initiated.
