Killer roads
Sir,
The write up “Tribute to a son” by M/s Ruhi Chouhan Khan which appeared in this paper on 29th July is soul stirring. What could be a tragedy greater than a mother narrating the passing away of her dearest one (a budding life) in a tragic circumstance of car crash ,an un natural happening. I intensely feel and understand the excruciating pain and suffering of M/s Khan, which reminds me the wailing and writhing of my mother some 48 years ago, when her son (my elder brother) in his prime youth, passed away due to a killer disease.
The killer torn out, Jammu city roads replete with innumerable pot holes and bumps view as haphazardly ploughed fields. Heavy monsoon showers in torrents have worsened their condition and the incidence of deaths and serious injuries continue unabated. Any person, biker or a vehicle driver, except of course some harsh and ruthless public transport drivers, are scared of venturing out on these roads. It is most unfortunate that the authorities responsible for the up keep and maintenance of these killer roads are so insensitive towards the safety of citizens. The tall claims of governance and development are seen fallen flat. The snail’s pace at which things are moving provide enough proof in believing that status quo is not likely to end soon, leaving citizens to fend for themselves. M/s khan’s mission of turning a tragedy into a purpose of creating awareness among people, particularly youth for abandoning unsafe driving and adopting other safety measures while plying bikes or driving vehicles has to be greatly appreciated and lent support to by every citizen. Wish the powers that be also take a serious note of the situation.
Yours etc….
