3 workers washed away in Jhelum during demolition work on bridge

SRINAGAR, Mar 3: At least three workers were washed away in Jhelum river during a demolition work on an old bridge at Uri in Baramulla district today.

An official said that several workers were engaged in demolition work on an old bridge in Mohura Uri and during the time the trio is believed to have fallen into the Jhelum river.
“The apprehension of them having fallen into the river (Jhelum) has grown as some people are claiming to have seen them falling into the river flowing in proximity to the site of the accident,” a local said.
An official said that they are assessing the situation. “Nothing can be said with much certainty at the moment,” the police official said.
A massive operation has been launched by the Police, SDRF, Army and local administration.
The three missing labourers have been identified as Shakeel Ahmed Mir, a resident of Kupwara, Bilal Ahmed Reshi of Budgam and Mohammad Aslam Chouhan of Anantnag, police said.
A video surfaced on social media showing a body lying between the rocks in the river.
“The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team has rushed to the spot to retrieve the bodies from the river, police said.
