As per police sources, fire broke out during wee hours in the fruit and vegetable market in Satwari in which three shops and nearly one dozen vends were gutted.
“Short circuit is initially believed to be the cause of fire”, sources said and added that no injury has been reported in the incident.
However, seven fire tenders were pressed in to douse the flames.
Satwari Police has taken cognizance in this regard.
Meanwhile, Former MLA of Gandhi Nagar Raman Bhalla reached spot and took stock of the damage caused by the fire. He talked to the victim hawkers and shopkeepers and encouraged them that they would get proper compensation for their loss by talking to the administration.
Bhalla spoke to the SDM and the Tehsildar to visit spot to assess the loss so that these people should be helped as much as possible, because at least 100 families of this market have lost their only means of earning including hawkers.
