3 Ps towards success

Ramesh K. Raina
To be successful is the cherished goal of every rational human being. To be successful is different to different people. To be successful is also inherent in a human being. History is testimony to this fact.
Success is a progressive phenomenon. A cave man achieved success step by step till he reached the level of modern civilized human being. There can be no universal definition of sucess. As such, success can be commotated in different ways according to the cultural set up, interest and other environmental factors. Success stories of different persons are a guiding principle for us to follow and an inspiration to us. Great democracies, inventions which have made this world a wonderful place to live in are the success stories to inspire us.
To achieve success in any sphere of life is not so easy as it sounds. Behind every success there is a story. Success stories of great men tell us how they have endured pain and after untiring efforts they have succeeded to reach the goal.
Nature has bestowed upon every human being some attributes which enable him to survive. It is with the help of these attributes that he adopts to the environment and exploits it to the benefit of his survival. These attributes are modified in the form of characters as the human being cultivates the habit of using these attributes for achieving success in a specific field. There are a number of features which are responsible for achieving success. However, the most important of them are passion, patience and preserve are wholly called 3Ps.
Passion is the most important attribute present in a person and which gives impetus to success.Passion is a treasure of energy found in the interior of a person. It is a psychological instinct which is in the latent form and becomes apparent in the course of time.
Nature and level of passion varies from person to person. As far the nature of passion is concerned, there are a number of interests for which a person shows passion. Some have passion for music, some have passion for academics, some for acting and so on. To determine this important psychological instinct in a human being is the domain of psychologists, who have done wonderful work in this area. As far the level of passion, it also varies from person to person. Some persons have less passion than their counterparts in the same sphere of interest.
Environmental factors also are responsible for honing this passion in a desired direction. Some unfortunate persons inspite of having passion for a particular field of interest cannot get suitable environment to hone it and it remains suppressed and is not channalised in a productive direction. Role of parents cannot be ruled out here. Parents can identify the nature of passion in their child and start honing from the very begining. It is pertinent to mention here that in early childhood, Albert Eineisten was labelled as stupid by his teachers. But his mother had vision and identified the strength in his child and this child later on rocked the whole scientific world with his amazing findings.
In general, passion which is an important latent tendency in a human being is not easily recognised. This is particularly true of persons coming from low socio, economic background because parents have no knowledge about the capacity of their children and are not channelised in a desired direction. This results in the wastage of this important human resource.
Another important feature of personality is patience, which contributes towards success. Sir Issac Newton has these words a patience. “If I have ever on made any valuable discoveries, it has been owing more to patient attention, than to any other talent.”
A person with patience can concentrate and focus his attention on a particular subject and can desire the best out of it. The concentration that he shows comes through patience. Patience is an inner strength that helps to internalise and imbibe knowledge. Patience leads a person to success as he is focussed and nothing can dissuade him from achieving his desired goal. Level of patience also varies from person to person. There is an ample proof to show that a healthy body has a sound patience. Persons who take nourishing protein diet show high level of patience as they are less irritant in their behaviour.
Patience is a virtue which helps to pull a person out of trouble. A man of patience is a man of crisis. In the game of cricket we have instances when team lands in trouble having lost a number of wickets for a meagre score. But some one comes to bat and shows restraint and gradually pushes the score board without losing further wickets.
Patience has a number of characteristic features which enable a person to succeed in his purpose. Patience alows a person to listen more and imbibe knowledge. Patience helps a person to think and act decisively which is very important for problem solving attitude. A person can handle a situation intelligently through patience. Patience improves the personality skill. Some, however, argue that patience leads to inertia and delays action. This, however, is not true because actions taken in haste prove deterimental.
Level of patience can be increased through continuous training of mind. Once patience is achieved, one can conquer the negative feelings and can focus his attention on a particular task which leads a person towards success.
Patience helps a person to resolve conflicts. If a person remains patient in his attitude, all things come to him.
Patience is counted among good manners. Patience adds to pleasing personality and a man of patience can adjust intelligently to social surroundings and he becomes a successful man in society. A man of patience can adjust to all shades of opinion in the society and is a sign of broader outlook and broader vision. Patience is the capacity to digest and not to vomit. Complicated discoveries and inventions are the result of tremendous patience shown by scientists, researchers and other such great men.
Perseverance is another salient features of personality which countributes towards success. Perseverance is that trait in a human being in which one continues to try to achieve a particular goal despite a number of setbacks. Perseverance shows determination and courage to come out of difficulties.
Success does not come easily. The path leading to success is never smooth but is full of hurdles. It is through continued effort, that these hurdles are overcome to reach the destination. Perseverance boosts our morale and motivates us to work tirelessly till the goal is achieved. Perseverance encourages us that we should never look behind when we are on the way. Instead we should keep on marching ahead till we reach the destination. Swami Vivekananda says “Rise awake and stop not till your goal is achieved.”
By continuously trying we impove our abilities of skill. Everytime we try, we overcome an error and we improve our personality development.Hard work is the key to success. Through hard work one shows determination and courage to complete a task. perservant attitude is prerequisite to achieve a target. A good thing associated with perseverant attitude is that it builds confidence which is so important for success. Many discoveries, inventions, voyages have been successfully completed through perseverant attitude of greatmen.
It can be concluded that success is progressive and there is no room for complacence. However, passion, patience and perseverence are the salient features of a personality among so many attributes which contribute towards achieving success in a particular field.
