SRINAGAR, Feb 9: Police today claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers and four gamblers in the city.
A police spokesman said on a tip off, a police party of Sher-Garhi headed by SHO Mohammad Isaaq arrested three notorious peddlers Aadil Farooq Mir of Ram Bagh, Waseem Raja Matta of Baigh Mohalla, Natipora, while the third one Wajid Ashraf Bhat of Kanth Bagh Kralpora, who tried to make good his escape on a motorcycle was also nabbed in a raid in South city.
The spokesman said 480 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon and 400 tablets of other abused prescription drugs were recovered from their possession.
The trio used to sell these tablets among the youth in the city. The motorcycle was also seized from the spot, he said, adding an FIR number 6/2015 under Section 22 NDPS has been registered against the peddlers and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, police also arrested four gamblers in Haft Chinar area and recovered stake money of Rs. 9070 from the spot.
The arrested gamblers have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh of Tangmarg, Abdul Hamid Sheikh of Batamaloo, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh of Aalochi Bagh and Ghulam Mohammad Misgar of Nowshera.
A case FIR No. 7/2015 under Section 13 Gambling Act has been registered against the gamblers, the spokesman said.
