JAMMU, Aug 9: Three Opposition leaders including CPM veteran MY Tarigami, Hakim Mohammad Yaseen, both MLAs and Ghulam Hassan Mir, former Minister today called on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and discussed with her the attempts being made by some sections in New Delhi to get Article 35A abrogated, which grants Special Status to the State in the form of State Subject Law.
The meeting came a day after Mehbooba called on National Conference working president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah and informed them about the steps being taken by the State Government to defend Article 35A of the Constitution of India in the Supreme Court.
After the meeting, Tarigami said the three Opposition leaders suggested that a delegation of political parties of Jammu and Kashmir should meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and brief him on the consequences the abrogation of Article 35A could have.
All the three Opposition leaders unanimously called upon the Chief Minister to use all resources at the command of the State Government to protect Article 35A.
The RSS think tank has filed a petition in the apex court seeking abrogation of Article 35A of the Constitution of India.
