3 nominations filed on opening day in Delhi

NEW DELHI, Jan 14: A total of three nomination papers were today filed in three constituencies on the first day of filing of papers in the national capital which will go to Assembly polls to February 7.

However, no candidate from BJP, Aam Aadmi Party has filed nomination and out of three candidates who today filed their nomination papers, two are independent.

Shyam Bharateey (45), a candidate of Gareeb Aadmi Party, has filed his nomination papers from Uttam Nagar seat of south-west district.

Independent candidates – Nafe Singh (41)and D K Chopra (61) have filed their nomination papers from Burari seat (north district) and Mehrauli seat (south district) respectively.

In south-west district, a meeting of political parties was convened for election expenditure and fixation of rate lists for different items.

Apart from these, EC today took strict action against illegal hoardings, posters put up by different political parties.

“Today, 1029 posters and 159 banners, which were unauthorised, have been removed from different locations,” District Election Officer (north) Madhu Tevtia said.

District Election Officer (south-west) Ankur Garg said that in his district, 3715 posters, 30 wall writings, 300 banners and 341 hoardings, which were installed illegally, were removed.

In south Delhi, 191 banners, 917 hoardings and 210 other defacements were removed. (PTI)
