SRINAGAR, Apr 13: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo today said the ongoing 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ campaign is expected to bring a “noticeable improvement” in drug abuse in the city as authorities step up enforcement and awareness measures.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an awareness programme at Amar Singh College, Labroo said the administration will adopt a zero-tolerance approach against traffickers, warning of strict action.

“Driving licences of offenders will be revoked and their properties attached as per law. Key official documents of those engaged in drug supply may also be cancelled,” he said, adding that “strict and visible action” will be taken.
Labroo said the district administration, in coordination with police and other agencies, will intensify surveillance while expanding awareness programmes in educational institutions and communities.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, said police will scale up operations against the drug network.
“We have already been conducting strong operations against the drug ecosystem, and these will continue with greater strictness under this campaign,” he told reporters.
The SSP said a dedicated mechanism has been put in place to target peddlers and major suppliers, with efforts to dismantle network linkages.
Describing the fight as a “community effort,” he stressed intelligence sharing and public participation.
“Our aim is to make Srinagar and Jammu and Kashmir drug-free. We will work to achieve the set targets,” he said.
Labroo said the administration is also focusing on treatment and rehabilitation.
“Those who have fallen victim to drug abuse will be identified and treated scientifically,” he said, adding that mental health and de-addiction services will be scaled up.
He said the Tele-MANAS helpline and services at the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) are available, assuring confidentiality for patients.
“Identity of patients will not be disclosed, and all necessary care will be provided,” he said.
Calling the campaign “objective-oriented,” Labroo said measurable targets have been set for the three-month period.
Meanwhile, Labroo said arrangements for the annual Hajj pilgrimage have been finalised, with the first flight scheduled from Srinagar on April 18. Preparations for the Amarnath Yatra are also underway, he added.
