3 militants trapped, 2 arrested

SRINAGAR, Apr 21: At least three militants were trapped by security forces in a village in Shopian district of South Kashmir this evening while two militants were arrested and a weapon snatching bid was foiled in the district.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that on specific inputs about the presence of militants in Melhoora village of Zainapora, a joint team of security forces including 55 RR of Army, CRPF and Shopian police launched a search operation in the area.
He said that during the searches, hiding militants fired upon security forces, who retaliated, triggering an encounter. He said that the operation is underway and cordoned around the village has been strengthened.
And security forces earlier foiled a weapon snatching bid in the district and arrested two militants.
Police said that this evening a joint check post was established at Keegam Chowk by Shopian Police, CRPF and 44 RR of Army.
They said a vehicle bearing Registration No. 2020-TR-2664B approached the naka at high speed in which three militants Riyaz Ahmad Wagay son of Sanaullah Wagay, Parvaiz Ahmed Wagay son of Sanaullah Wagay of Nazneenpora and an unknown militant were travelling.
They lobbed a hand grenade which did not explode and during the ruckus they snatched the weapon of head constable Rayees Ahmad Mir.
The DySP on the spot along with security forces chased and apprehended Riyaz and Pervaiz and recovered the snatched weapons besides other arms and ammunition from them.
Police have registered a case (FIR no. 71/2020) in Police Station Shopian and investigation has been taken up.
