SRINAGAR : Three militants were killed and a soldier was injured in a fierce encounter in the frontier district of Kupwara since, official sources said here today.
However, defence ministry spokesperson was not available to give details about the encounter. Sources said that a security force patrol party noticed a group of five to six militants in the Zachaldara Handwara woods in the frontier district of Kupwara last night. However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire with automatic weapons, they said adding troops also retaliated ensuing an encounter.
They said three militants were killed and a soldier was injured in the encounter. However, no body was recovered so far because of darkness, they said.
Additional security forces were rushed from nearby camps and entire forest area was sealed to foil any attempt by militants to escape, they said adding the operation was stopped due to darkness. However, with the first light this morning operation was again launched, sources said adding so far no contact was established.
