SRINAGAR, Dec 25: Three local journalists were allegedly beaten by Army while covering Jashn-e-Baramulla function in Baramulla this afternoon.
Army hosted Jashn-e-Baramulla in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, wherein, Bollywood actor Amisha Patel was the chief guest.

The function as per the journalists was going well until the scribes asked to get a byte from Bollywood actress Amisha Patel in a professional manner. However, as per the journalists, the army officials allegedly started beating them without any reason.
Three journalists who were allegedly beaten are Suhail Khan, online editor Kashmir Despatch, Kashmir Crown reporter Ashiq Mir and Mudasir, whose camera was also destroyed by the Army.
“First, we were invited to cover the function at Jashn-e-Baramulla by the Army, however, after we were covering the event and asked chief guest to cover the function professionally, we were not only beaten, but our equipment was destroyed”, said a journalist.
Soon after the incident, journalists boycotted the function and staged a protest against the Army for allegedly thrashing three journalists despite being asked to cover the function.
Meanwhile, Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA) and North Kashmir Journalists Association (NKJA) strongly condemned the attack on fellow journalists and urged Army top brass to initiate an inquiry into the matter.
Senior Army officials while visiting to protesting journalists assured that a strict action will be taken against the soldier who had allegedly beaten the journalists.
They termed the incident unfortunate, saying a team will be constituted who will probe the matter and bring facts to fore.
