Srinagar, Nov 17: At least three houses were damaged in the fire that broke out this morning in the Alamgari Bazar locality of Srinagar.
Locals rushed to the spot shortly after the fire broke out, according to eyewitnesses, to put out the flames. However, with the limited resources at their disposal, they were unable to control the raging flames. According to them, the flames quickly spread, causing significant damage to several structures. “The fire started at around 9:30, but local teenagers worked hard to put it out before the firefighters arrived. We have been requesting a fire station from the authorities in our region, but nothing has occurred thus far,” a local said.
A fire and emergency services official said after receiving the call, a firefighting team was dispatched from the closest station. “Two homes had already been completely destroyed by fire, and a third’s roof was also on fire. Nothing else has sustained harm,” he said.
He urged people to exercise caution when using electronic gadgets. “Since using water bottles with an electric blanket increases the risk of short circuits, people stop doing it. They should also turn off their electronic gadgets before going to bed,” he said.
He added that they frequently encounter difficulties getting to the site because of vehicles that have been wrongly parked on the sides of the road.
