Srinagar, Apr 8: Police today arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and Anantnag, recovering over 18 kilograms of brown sugar, charas and poppy straw from their possession.
Authorities stated that in Baramulla, police apprehended a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband substance in the Boniyar area.
During the intervening night of April 7 and 8, a police party deployed at Bernate Bala, Boniyar, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Manzoor Ahmad Mir, son of Late Hafiz-Ullah Mir, a resident of Bernate, Boniyar.
“During search, officers recovered 1.216 Kg of contraband substance, believed to be brown sugar and a digital weighing machine. Subsequently, he was arrested,” police said.
Accordingly, police said, a case vide FIR No. 25/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Boniyar.
Investigation has been initiated to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal narcotics network and to trace the source of the contraband, police stated.
In Anantnag, police apprehended two drug peddlers and seized significant quantities of contraband substances in two separate actions.
As per authorities, acting on specific information, a checkpoint was established by a team from Police Station Aishmuqam at Bashnaar.
During the checking, one individual identified as Muzaffer Ahmed Shah, son of Latief Shah, resident of Hardkichloo Aishmuqam, was apprehended, police said.
During search, approximately 10 Kgs, 270 grams of charas powder was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 11/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Aishmuqam and further investigation has been taken up, authorities said.
In another action, a police party from Police Post Khanabal apprehended one person, identified as Khayam Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Gani, resident of Batangoo, at Shohal Batangoo.
“Upon search, the team recovered 7 Kgs of poppy straw from his possession. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is underway,” police said.
