JAMMU, June 2: Police today claimed they have apprehended three persons, including a woman, in separate operations in Reasi and Kathua districts, recovering opium and heroin-like narcotics from their possession.
In Reasi, a team from Police Post Dera Baba intercepted a woman during naka checking and patrolling near Bhabbar Brahmana and recovered 102.370 grams of opium from her possession.
The accused, identified as Jatinder Kour of Kherwad, Bhabbar, was accordingly arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Reasi.
In Kathua district, police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered approximately 7 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession during an operation based on specific information.
The accused, identified as Afrik Mohammad of Dhanore Lakhanpur, was allegedly involved in supplying narcotics to local youth.
Police have also seized the motorcycle allegedly used in the commission of the offence.
A case under the NDPS Act has also been registered against him at Police Station Kathua.
Meanwhile, in another action near Matt Mandir in Kathua, police apprehended a drug consumer, identified as Sachin Sharma from Ward Number 12.
He was also booked under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kathua.
Further investigation in all the cases is underway to identify the backward and forward linkages of the arrested persons.
