SRINAGAR, Aug 20: The Eid-ul Fitr celebrations for a group of Sopore youth who had gone to health resort of Pahalgam in South Kashmir for picnic turned into tragedy when the load carrier in which they were traveling turned turtle, killing 3 of them and injuring around 22.
The tragic accident took place at Sallar, near Pahalgam in South Kashmir district of Anantnag when around 25 youth of Sopore traveling in a TATA pick up van turned turtle in the evening while driver Ishfaq Khan was negotiating a curve.
Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, Farooq Shah, told Excelsior that 25 of them were injured while 3 of them died later died in the hospital. He said that 15 of them are being treated at District Hospital Anantnag and their condition is out of danger while 7 critically injured have been shifted to Srinagar for treatment. As soon as the injured were shifted to Primary Health Centre Sallar, hundreds of people gathered there and protested against non-availability of the staff. Police also rushed to the hospital and the protesters pelted stones on police resulting in clashes. However, the DC said that 2 doctors and para-medical staff was available at the hospital despite Eid.
The injured have been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Padit son of Ghulam Hassan, Lateef Ahmad Mir son of Dilawar Ahmad Mir, Sajad Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rasheed, Rameez Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Khursheed Ahmad Mir son of Shabir Ahmad, Ashiq Hussain Ganai son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganai, Ishfaq Ahmad Mir son of Jan Mohammad, Manzoor Nabi son of Ghulam Nabi, Mustafa Majeed son of Abdul Majeed Mir, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Shaban, Tufail Khan son of Mohammad Sultan Khan, Pupa Khan son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan, Mudasir Nazeer son of Nazir Ahmad, Zaffar Mir son of Abdul Samad Mir, Irfan Baba son of Saidullah Baba, Zahid Mir son of Qamar-ud-Din, Mohammad Shahid son of Bashir Ahmad, Rauf Mir son of Zulfikar Ahmad Mir, Omar Mir son of Saidullah Mir, Irfan Mir son of Abdul Razaq, Majeed Malik and Rameez Qadir son of Abdul Qadir.Three of them later succumbed to injuries.
Meanwhile, a woman died and 10 others were injured in other road mishaps in Kashmir valley today.
Police said that a Tata-407 troop carrier bearing registration number JK01R/8985 of IRP 16th Battalion B-Coy Camp Kunzar, Tangmarg on way from Magam to Tangmarg hit a pedestrian woman Gulshana wife of Mohammad Shafi Shah resident of Gonipora, Takya near Tourist Park, Baramulla. The injured was shifted to Sub District Hospital Tangmarg, where from she has been referred to SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar where she succumbed to her injuries.
In another accident a Tata 407 vehicle bearing registration number JK03C/8789 and Sumo bearing registration number JK02AB/4045 collided near FCI Lethpora, Awantipora, resulting in injuries to nine passengers traveling in the Sumo. All the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital Pampore for treatment.
In another accident, an Alto car bearing registration number JK13/7403 hit and seriously injured one Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Khrew at Khrew Chowk, Awantipora. The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment.
