3 cops suspended, departmental inquiry initiated

JAMMU, May 13: Despite lapse of two days, the Police Department has failed to re-arrest the under trial, who ran away from the custody of Udhampur cops from outside the premises of Court of 2nd Additional Sessions Judge at High Court Complex, Janipur, here yesterday.
As the Police Department is claiming foolproof security to the general masses, its cops could not even keep the arrested persons properly in their net.
The glaring example of the lapse of police security grid is running of the under trial from the custody of the Udhampur cops from outside the premises of Court yesterday.
However, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Suleman Choudhary has suspended three cops and ordered departmental inquiry against them as due to their negligence the murder accused ran away from their custody.
“Departmental inquiry has been initiated against three cops including ASI Mohammad Iqbal, HC Rashid Choudhary and Constable Yudhvir. Due to their negligence, the under trial murder accused escaped from their custody and trio have been suspended with immediate effect”, SSP said while talking to Excelsior.
He added that the inquiry will be headed by Additional SP Udhampur Mohan Lal Kaith and he will submit the report within shortest possible time.
As per police sources, under trial identified as Rahil Chandel, son of Mohammad Rafiq Chandel along with four other under trails was taken to the Court of 2nd Additional Sessions Judge where between he managed to escape from the custody of police.
He along with four others was under trial in a case registered under FIR number 101/09 under Section 302 RPC at Udhampur Police Station”, sources said, adding that Janipur police have registered a case under FIR 104/15 Sections 223 and 224 RPC.
