SIT formed to probe Bhat’s killing

Srinagar, Aug 17: Police today arrested three brothers of a militant who was responsible for the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit in Shopian village yesterday for harbouring their militant brother and their property is being attached while a Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the killing.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that police today formed the SIT to investigate the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sunil Kumar Bhat at Chotigam in Shopian district.
He said that they arrested three brothers of militant Adil Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Khalil Wani of Kutpora who was responsible for the killing of the Kashmiri Pandit. The arrested brothers are Arif Ahmad Wani, Shabir Ahmad Wani and Touseef Ahmad Wani.
Earlier in the morning working on the leads about presence of Adil Ahmad Wani who is responsible for the killing of Sunil Kumar Bhat son of Sri Ji Bhat and injuring his cousin Petimber Nath son of Arjun Nath Bhat at their orchard in Chotigam, Shopian yesterday, Police raided the house of Adil at Kutpora in Shopian.

The ADGP said that raid was conducted by the join team of security forces including Police, 34 RR of Army and 17th Battalion of CRPF.
Kumar said that during the searches, the militant lobbed grenade on the search party which was retaliated. However, the militant escaped taking benefit of darkness.
“Later, the security forces found a hideout in the house at rooftop where arms and ammunition including one AK rifle along with a magazine and one pistol was found,” he added.
The ADGP said that a sperate case (FIR No. 154/2022 U/S 307 IPC, 7/27 IA Act 16,18,19,20 ULA(P) Act) was registered against the brothers of Adil for harbouring militants. “The process for attachment of property as proceed of terrorism has been initiated U/s 25 of UAPA, Act 1967,” he added.
In the meantime, Police chief, Dilbag Singh said that two persons involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit in Shopian yesterday have been identified and that strict action will be taken against them.
He said this on the sidelines of a wreath laying ceremony of ITBP men, who died in a Pahalgam accident yesterday.
The DGP said that the people have supported positive changes on the ground well, which doesn’t suit the anti-peace elements, who are trying to disturb peace.
“The way people supported positive moves. The calm situation on August 5 and 15 celebrations were appreciable and the people supported Amarnath Yatra in every possible way, which didn’t suit the anti-peace elements. They try to disturb peace, but their attempts have been and will be foiled in the future as well,” he said.
About Shopian killing, he said that the identification of two persons involved has been established, while further process has been initiated and strict action will be taken.
He also paid tribute to the ITBP personnel, who lost their lives in Pahalgam road accident yesterday and said that those injured are getting specialized treatment and if need arises, the injured will be taken to Delhi hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, DG ITBP, S L Thaosen also paid tribute to the deceased personnel and said that the treatment of injured personnel is going on and they will get the best treatment.
