RAJOURI, July 15: The police in Rajouri has unearthed a new modus operandi of bovine smugglers of smuggling bovines using light passenger cars and seized three cattle while being transported in a car.
Police said that during wee hours on Friday, a patrolling party of Police Post Lamberi under Police Station Nowshera, under the close supervision of PSI Arun Singh during routine checking at Lamberi intercepted an Alto car which was moving towards Poonch.
The vehicle was signalled to stop but driver of the car parked the vehicle at some distances from naka and fled from there.
During frisking of this vehicle with registration number JK02AD- 3423, it was found loaded with three bovine animals which were being smuggled by the accused. Police said that the animals were tied with ropes in very cruel manner without food and water.
In this connection, cognizance has been taken and a formal case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation started while manhunt to apprehend the accused driver is going on.
SSP Rajouri Mohd Aslam said that measures to check bovine smuggling has been taken at large scale in the district and hundreds of bovines have been rescued in recent past.
