3 arrested for sexual assault on Panch

Srinagar, Mar 8: Police today arrested three persons in Central Kashmir district of Budgam for attempting to rape a woman village Counsellor (Panch). Police Station Khan-Sahab arrested three persons after receiving a written complaint from a woman who is a Panch of a village in district Budgam.
In her complaint, she stated that Showkat Ahmad Ganaie and his wife who is chairperson of BDC Khan Sahab and Mukhtar Ahmad Dar and his wife who is Chairperson of Parnewa BDC, motivated her to come to Jammu for a meeting which was being organised there.
“Showkat Ganaie and Mukhtar Mir both informed me that BDC chairpersons of block Khan Sahab and Parnewa (their wives) wanted me to leave for Jammu for some Panchayat related work. I being the Panchayat member, obliged. Showkat Ganaie and Mukhtar Mir were accompanied by one more person Babar Khan from Ichgam Budgam. In Jammu, Showkat Ganaie and Mukhtar Mir tried to assault me sexually and attempted a rape on me. Despite my resistance, they molested me.” She said in her complaint.
Police Station Khan Sahab took cognizance of the complaint and arrested all the three accused persons. “An FIR vide number 27/2020 under Sections 336, 376, 511, 354 has been registered against the accused and further investigation started.
