2G services extended up to June 17

JAMMU, May 27: Reiterating that restriction on the internet speed have not posed any hindrance to COVID-19 control measures, accessing online education or carrying out business activities, the Department of Home, J&K Government, today ordered the continuance of 2G mobile data services only till June 17 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
An order in this regard was issued today by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Shaleen Kabra, according to which, the internet speed on mobile data services shall remain restricted to 2G only till June 17, 2020, unless modified earlier.
While the Postpaid SIM card holders can access to the internet, availability of these services is restricted on pre-paid SIM cards, unless verified as per the norms applicable for postpaid connections. Fixed line internet connectivity shall continue to be made available with Mac-binding.
Stating that the internet speed restrictions have effectively checked the unfettered misuse of social media for incitement and for propagating and coordination of terror activities, the Home Ministry order claims that the speed restrictions have not posed any hindrance to COVID-19 control measures, including use of mobile apps, accessing online educational content or carrying out business activities.
