JAMMU, Aug 2: Despite bad weather and rains, 2839 more pilgrims paid their obeisance at the holy cave of Shri Amarnath Ji in South Kashmir on Sunday while a fresh batch of 444 devotees left Jammu early this morning for their onward journey to the cave shrine.
Reports said that rain and cloudy weather failed to deter the devotees in progressing their pilgrimage from both Baltal and Nunwan base camps while the number of pilgrims performing Darshan at the holy cave shrine on Sunday registered a slight increase over the yesterday’s number.
On 32nd day of the Yatra today, 2839 pilgrims performed Darshan thus taking the total number since July 2 to 3 to 20,876 while total 2753 devotees had paid their obeisance at the cave shrine on Saturday.
This morning, about 600 pilgrims, including women, Sadhus and children, left Baltal base camp for the holy cave shrine amidst raising of religious slogans like Har Har Mahadev while the pilgrims who had night halt near the cave shrine after having darshan, started their return journey to Baltal base camp despite bad weather.
Majority pilgrims, who are undertaking the pilgrimage to holy cave through traditional Pahalgam route are also preferring to return via shortest Baltal track.
Fresh batches of pilgrims also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route. Though majority of the pilgrims start their foot journey towards the next halting station, some preferred to stay there. Similarly pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari and other halting stations, also started their journey towards the cave shrine.
Meanwhile, amid tight security, a fresh batch of 444 pilgrims left Jammu for the cave shrine of Shri Amarnath this morning. The batch comprised of 342 men, 96 women and six children, who left in a motorcade of 13 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp here at 4.50 am.
With today’s batch, as many as 45,886 pilgrims have so far officially left from the Jammu base camp for the shrine.
