JKP committed for ‘drug-free J&K’ mission: DIG Patil

JAMMU, June 3: The ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan has yielded significant results in Jammu, Samba and Kathua (JSK) districts during its first 50 days, with Jammu and Kashmir Police registering 237 NDPS cases and arresting or booking 280 persons involved in drug-related activities.
A statement said during the drive, police seized 6.842 kg of heroin (chitta), 1.032 kg of opium, 29.087 kg of poppy straw and 37 kg of ganja, collectively valued at around Rs 18.22 crore.
As part of the preventive and financial action against drug networks, the statement said three persons were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act, movable properties worth Rs 83.85 lakh and immovable properties worth Rs 14.46 crore were attached, while Rs 41.64 lakh in bank accounts was frozen.
Police also froze 60 bank accounts and seized gold worth Rs 13.70 lakh.
Meanwhile, in a parallel awareness campaign, 536 programmes were conducted, reaching 60,137 participants across the three districts.
Action was also taken against the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs, with 912 chemist shops inspected, violations detected in 35 cases, six licences cancelled and 29 shops sealed.
Authorities recommended cancellation of 125 driving licences and 267 vehicle registration certificates linked to narcotics offences.
The statement said that the drive further led to the destruction of illegal cultivation spread over 8.5 marlas of poppy and 32 kanals of cannabis, while 82 Investigating Officers received refresher training in NDPS investigations.
Police also challenged 14 bail orders and one acquittal order, recommended 80 cases for passport impoundment or suspension, and shared details of 97 contractors with the Public Works Department for verification and necessary action.
The DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shridhar Patil, reiterated J&K Police’s commitment to achieving a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir through strict enforcement, financial investigations, preventive measures and active public participation.
