Richard Stagg appointed Rothschild India Chairman
NEW DELHI, Apr 22: Global financial advisory firm Rothschild Group today said it has appointed former British High Commissioner to India Richard Stagg as Chairman of its India operations with effect from May 1, 2015.
“The Rothschild Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Stagg as Chairman of Rothschild in India with effect from May 1, 2015,” the company said in a statement.
Stagg had served as British High Commissioner to India between 2007 and 2011. He had also served as British Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2012 until the end of February this year.
Commenting on the appointment, Robert Leitão said, “He (Stagg) has deep knowledge of India’s inter-linked and political business landscapes, and developed a strong understanding of the Indian commercial environment during his tenure as British High Commissioner.”
Stagg will work together with Rothschild’s global financial advisory teams in India and around the world, providing M&A, debt and equity advice to Indian companies and international businesses looking to invest in the region.
“He will provide invaluable support to India-based clients and advice to businesses assessing investment opportunities in the country,” Leitão added.
Stagg has held a number of other high profile roles during his career including Chief Operating Officer at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2003-2007) and British Ambassador to Bulgaria (1998-2001).
