27 militants gunned down in just 17 days: DGP

*Doda belt close to become ‘militancy-free’

JAMMU, June 15: Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, Dilbag Singh today said that security forces across J&K have intensified operations against militancy and during last 17 days, 27 militants including some top commanders of various militants outfits were gunned down, while Doda-Kishtwar belt has almost been cleared of the militancy.
While talking to the media persons at Doda during a visit today to take the review of security situation in Chenab belt, the DGP said that the secuity forces have launched intensified operations all across the Jammu and Kashmir and during last five months several top commanders of Jaish, Hizbul Mujahideen and a few other militant outfits were eliminated in J&K. The panic is high among the militant cadre operating in Kashmir due to pressure on them to strike here from their bosses sitting on that side of the Line of Control.

” The morale of the security forces is very high. Just imagine, during last 16-17 days, our security forces have gunned down 27 militants including a few top commanders. They have suffered massive set back during recent past and the forces are targeting them to eliminate where ever they are hiding,” the DGP said.
Dilbag said the security forces with their utmost efforts are trying hard to contain violence and terrorism in J&K and restore peace and normalcy, but Pakistan is constantly trying to push armed militants into this side of the Line of Control. Several major infiltration bids of the terrorist groups were foiled recently and they were gunned down near the LoC by the vigilant security forces.
While referring to the frustration of Pakistani agencies in view of sagging morale of militants operating in Valley and some development in the recent past, Dilbag said as per the intelligence inputs the terrorist training camps and the launching pads remained operational even during the winter months in Pak occupied Kashmir. Despite heavy snow at some high passes, they tried to push armed militants through Keran sector of north Kashmir during March. Two big groups of the armed infiltrators were eliminated by the alert forces during that period.
” Pakistani agencies are trying hard to revive militancy in J&K. Earstwhile Doda district which had turned by and large calm, was targeted to infuse militancy again. But in Doda and Kishtwar some very successful operations were conducted by the forces and this belt has almost been cleared of the militancy. Hardly, one militant is alive in this belt and forces are on the job to eliminate him also shortlty,” the DGP claimed.
He further said that the Doda Police along with Administration has done excellent work in keeping the district in Green Zone along with district Kishtwar. He said Jammu and Kashmir Police in coordination with other security forces have exhibited professionalism in handling different situations.
Appreciating the role of J&K Police personnel and other security forces in combating COVID-19, the DGP said that the challenge is not over yet. He said that all COVID warriors have done efficient work so far in containing the spread of deadly virus and the fight to stop spreading virus is to be taken more rigorously to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police along with other security forces have faced different challenges successfully, and hoped that this Corona challenge would be defeated bravely by the joint efforts of all of us with the cooperation of the people of Jammu Kashmir.
Earlier, during his visit the DGP addressed the `Darbar’ of officers and jawans of J&K Police and CAPF personnel at DPL Doda, besides chairing officers meeting.
Accompanied by IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh, the DGP reviewed the security scenario and measures to combat COVID-19 in these districts. At DPL the DGP was received by the Deputy Commissioner, SSP Doda and other officers of the district.
Addressing the Darbar, the DGP said due to the hard work and efforts of Police, Army and CAPF personnel peace has largely prevailed, in the district and the anti-national elements are under check. He said that the enthusiasm and devotion shown by the different forces along with Jammu and Kashmir Police with the support and cooperation of people have further strengthened peaceful environment in the area.
Later, the DGP also reviewed security situation in Kathua and inaugurated Anti-drug unit and New Gym complex in DPL complex.
