2458 protected persons provided security cover: Govt

SRINAGAR, June 2: Government today said 2458 persons are being provided with security cover that include 1362 categorised persons and 1096 uncategorised persons.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Vikar Rasool Wani in Lower House, Minister Incharge Home said at present, 1362 categorised protected persons are being provided security in the form of PSOs/ Vehicles/ Hotel accommodations etc. Besides, 812 uncategorised persons are being provided security cover including 284 uncategorised protected persons availing hotel accommodations only, the Minister said.
The Minister stated that security wing of J&K police is providing security cover to protected persons as per instructions/directions contained in Yellow Book on the basis of threat perceptions assessed through CID.
“The State Level Security Review Coordination Committee (SRCC) meets periodically to review the categorisation of the protected persons as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India laid down in Yellow Book. The security cover is provided on the basis of threat perception report while as the Yellow Book also provides position based security category,” the Minister said.
Keeping in view the security considerations it would not be feasible to disclose the details of the security cover being provided to or withdrawn from the protected person, the Minister further added.
