SRINAGAR, June 6: Army today said that fringe elements are behind the threatening posters that appeared in North Kashmir.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lt General Subarata Saha, today said: “… making of posters is not a very difficult exercise. But as we are seeing this, it appears to be attempts by some fringe elements to create some kind of instability.”
Lt General Saha said that security forces will not allow such “inimical elements” to succeed in their designs.
In the meantime, Kashmir cable operators have decided to suspend their services for 24 hours as a “precautionary measure” following threats by unknown persons in Southern district of Pulwama.
The acting president of Kashmir Cable Operators Association, Yasir Haneef, in a statement issued here said that the decision was taken in a meeting held today after surfacing of threat posters in Sopore and threats to Pulwama cable operator ACN website cable network.
It may be mentioned here that last evening, two persons asked operatives at ACN website cable network in Pulwama to shut the services. The operators tried to persuade them by saying that it is the source of earning for them but they clearly said that they had to convey.
The operator instantly shut down the services but they restored only after the intervention of police and district administration.
The cable operators’ president said the cable operators across Kashmir have decided to suspend services from 7 pm today for 24 hours. He sought the intervention of militant amalgam United Jihad Council (UJC) and Hurriyat Conferences in resolving the issue.
“Thousands of youth earn their bread and butter through cable services and if the services are shut, they will become jobless,” he said.
The association has said that cable operators don’t indulgein “pornography”. “Instead, we air more and more Islamic television channels,” they said.
