JAMMU, June 11: The Motor Vehicles Department has launched an aggressive campaign and accelerated enforcement activities for ensuring compulsory affixation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on Motor Vehicles and checking of overloading on the Passenger and Goods Carriage Vehicles, The Motor Vehicles Department launched enforcement drive at different locations in the Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi and Rajouri Districts.
The teams of Motor Vehicles Department headed by respective ARTOs conducted the enforcement drive.
In Jammu district a team of the officers of Motor Vehicles Department headed by ARTO BOI-G, Jammu, Pawan Sharma conducted physical checking of Motor Vehicles under the supervision of Ghanshyam Singh RTO, Jammu at different places on the Jammu and Samba National Highway.
During the drive 224 vehicles especially Passenger Buses, Goods Carriage and Motor Bikes and Tractors were checked out of which 60 vehicles were either not fitted with HSRP or overloaded beyond the permissible capacity and a fine to the tune of Rs. 3,34,900 was imposed upon the vehicles in violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules. Out of an amount of Rs. 2,50,900 was compounded and recovered onspot and remaining 84,000 will be recovered at the time of disposal of challans.
In Samba district a team of the officers of Motor Vehicles Department headed by ARTO Samba, Rehana Tabassum also conducted physical checking of vehicles at different places in the district Samba. During the drive 64 vehicles were challaned and fine to the tune of Rs. 65,500 was realised onspot from the violators from the spot and Rs. 90,000 is expected from the challans at the time of their disposal.
In Reasi district a team of the Motor Vehicle Department headed by ARTO, Reasi, Rajesh Gupta conducted physical checking of Motor Vehicles on Domail Katra Road. During the drive 71 vehicles were challaned for not affixation of HSRP and incomplete documents as also overloaded and fine to the tune of Rs. 88,000 was recovered onspot from the violators.
In Udhampur district a team of the officers of Motor Vehicles Department headed by ARTO Udhampur, Jugal Kishore Sharma also conducted physical checking of vehicles at Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Samroli-Chenani stretch. During the drive 15 vehicles were challaned fine to the tune of Rs. 50,500 was realised from the violators from the spot.
In Rajouri district a team of the officers of Motor Vehicles Department headed by ARTO Shri Shammi Kumar Sharma conducted physical checking of the vehicles at different places in district Rajouri. During the drive, 12 vehicles were challaned and fine of Rs. 6000 was realised from on spot. The enforcement drive was supervised, monitored and co-ordinated by Ghanshyam Singh, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu.
