22 vehicles engaged in illegal mining seized, 4 cops injured

JAMMU, Apr 17: Jammu Police in Sub Divisions RS Pura and Akhnoor seized 22 vehicles involved in illegal mining. However, four cops including a Probationary Sub Inspector were injured during stone pelting by mining mafia in Sub Division RS Pura.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli, Jammu Police in Sub Division RS Pura had a major crackdown in Tawi river area against mining mafia and seized many tractors and trolleys.
“On specific information, police teams led by SDPO RS Pura Shabir Khan and assisted by SHO RS Pura Inspector Jai Pal Sharma, SHO Miran Sahib Inspector Mirza Sultan and SHO Arnia Inspector Harjeet Singh raided the mining dens in Tawi river bed along Badyal Brahmana and were able to arrest some sand extractors along with their tractors and trolleys”, SSP informed.
“Seeing the cops, the mining mafia along with their supporters pelted stones on police parties thereby injuring police personnel. In order to control the unruly mining mafia mob, police had to fire some aerial shots in air”, he added.
In the melee, 4 police personnel including a Probationary Sub Inspector got injured who were evacuated for medical treatment, SSP said, adding that a case under FIR Number 70/2021 under Sections 307, 353, 147 and 148 IPC and Mining Act was lodged at Police Station RS Pura and raids continued in different locations to arrest the absconding accused.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Akhnoor led by SHO Inspector Hilal Azhar laid a naka and seized five dumpers for illegal mining. DMO Jammu was also accordingly informed.
“The mining was done in violation of order of High Court of J&K. In order to strictly implement the drive against illegal mining and to tighten noose against the violators of the law, Jammu Police is firm to take strict action”, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli said.
