KATHUA, Nov 1: Sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur, today foiled an attempt of smuggling polythene into the State by seizing 2100 kg of banned polythene bags from a truck entering the State.
On routine checking of Excise Department, a truck bearing registration no HR57-2014 was subjected to physical check when it reported at the Toll Post Lakhanpur for clearance today at around 7 AM.
As per the documents, the vehicle was carrying 42 bags of cotton cloth vide Challan No 14515 dated 19.10.2017 consigned by M/s Mahi Trading Plot No 59/2 GIDC to Bhat Fabrics, Srinagar. However, on physical checking, the vehicle was found loaded with 2100 kg of polythene bags.
When the vehicle was put to physical check, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot. The vehicle along with seized polythene has been handed over to Pollution Control Board, Kathua for taking further action under rules.
The whole operation was supervised by the Deputy Excise Commissioner, Vishesh Mahajan and carried out by Excise & Taxation Officers, Dr Varinder Gupta, Showkat Hyat Mattoo, Shehraz Ahmed, Sourabh Sharma and Sajad Sofi; Inspectors Dheeraj Kumar and Mohd Younis; Sub Inspectors Surinder Bagal and Manvider Singh, and Excise Guards, Tilak Raj, Riaz Ahmed and Dharam Singh.
