21-kg heroin, Pak ammunition seized by BSF along Indo-Pak border

AMRISTAR, July 13:

Over 20-kg heroin with a street value of around Rs 100 crore, being smuggled in by Pakistani nationals, and three Pakistan-made live cartridges were today seized by BSF along the Indo-Pak border here.
The smugglers hurled packets of the drug across the border fence into Indian territory under the Narli border post in Bhikiwind in the wee hours of today.
When they were challenged by the Border Security Force troops, the smugglers opened fire at them, which was retaliated, officials said. However, the smugglers managed to escape.
BSF DIG R S Kataria said the incident took place around 3:30 AM when a night patrol party noticed suspicious movement near the said border outpost along the Indo-Pak border.
The BSF personnel immediately rushed to the spot and saw some Pakistani smugglers throwing packets towards the Indian side, he said.
“At least 21 packets (of around one kg each) containing suspected heroin, a Beretta Italian pump action gun and three Pakistan-made live cartridges were recovered from the spot,” they said.
The cartridges bear the markings of WAH Industries Limited, Pakistan, they added. (PTI)
