SRINAGAR, Mar 23: At least 20 structures, including 12 residential huts, were damaged today in a fire incident in Nowhatta area of the old city, police said.
“Fire broke out in the residential house of Abdul Rahim Sheikh at Tujgari Mohalla, in Nowhatta area of the city. The fire engulfed 19 other structures including 12 adjacent residential huts,” a police spokesman said.
There have been no casualties reported in the incident, he said adding that the fire was brought under control on time by the fire brigade personnel.
Meahwhile, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah accompanied by a team of officers visited Tujgari Mohalla and distributed relief out of Red Cross Fund which include tents, kitchen sets, bedding and cash among the sufferers.
He assured them that measure for their rehabilitation would be soon put in place and relief under Chief Minister’s Relief Fund be released.
Mr. Farooq Shah also directed CA&PD Department to provide one month free ration among the fire sufferers.
