20% hike in basic pension on 70 years demanded

JAMMU, Feb 6: J&K Pensioners Welfare Federation (JKPWF)/Senior Citizens Civil Society has demanded 20 per cent increase in the basic pension after 70 years of age of the pensioner.
In a press conference here today Sampat Prakash, J&K president of the Federation said the government should release the dearness allowance of pensioners from January 2020.
Talking to reporters he demanded that in the new upcoming private projects of power and agriculture sectors in J&K, some quota should be fixed for the qualified wards of pensioners.
The Federation leader also said that money of leave salary of pensioners of J&K Industries Ltd should be released to them in one go as it was decided by the J&K administration in a meeting with pensioners to release the amount.
Another demand of the Federation was implementation of Senior Citizens Act passed by the parliament in toto in J&K.
The pensioners also said that they will stage a peaceful protest in the month of March this year along with their grand children in favour of their demands.
“After the protest there will be conferences in Srinagar and Jammu in April this year where renowned trade union leaders like H.S Sidhu and others will address,” Prakash maintained.
The Federation leader also said that arrears of 34 pensioners of Gulmarg Development Authority should be released immediately.
He also demanded implementation of Minimum Wages Act in J&K and raised the issue of regularisation of daily wagers of different departments.
