Spike in Ladakh too: 93 new cases reported

JAMMU, Oct 17: Two women and an Army soldier were among five persons who succumbed to COVID-19 and 247 persons tested positive in Jammu region and 93 in Ladakh while 405 persons recovered from the virus today. With today’s positives, Jammu region’s Corona tally has crossed 35,000.
Meanwhile, in view of the festival season, the Health Department conducted Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) in more showrooms today where some persons tested positive for Coronavirus.
Two persons tested positive for pathogen in Xtream Motors Sainik Colony and one each at Hero Motors Tali Morh, GSP Auto Suzuki Rehari Chungi, Jammu Bajaj Channi Himmat and Devika Showroom Greater Kailash.
A total of 832 persons were sampled for COVID-19 in showrooms and hotels and, of them, only six were found infected by the virus. As many as 105 persons were tested at Hotel Ramada, 25 at Fortune and 50 at Asia. All of them were negative.
In the rural areas, nine persons were detected as positive for COVID-19 in Marh and one each at Pallanwalla, RS Pura, Bishnah and Akhnoor.
A Judicial Officer tested positive for the virus in Doda district. He was symptomatic. Five doctors including a senior Gynecologist and number of para-military personnel have also reported positive.
Kishtwar today reported highest number of three Corona casualties in the Jammu region.
A 48-year old man hailing from Link Road Kishtwar, who was suffering from Coronavirus but had no co-morbidity, died in the SKIMS Soura today where he was under treatment while a 65-year-old man from Bounjwa in the same district breathed his last in the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda where he was admitted on October 14 because of being symptomatic for the virus like symptoms. He too had no co-morbidity.
A 72-year-old woman from Pachhal in Kishtwar district passed away in the District Hospital Kishtwar where she was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 on October 14. She too had no other ailments, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kishtwar Dr Ravinder Manhas said.
A 64-year-old woman from Bhalla area of Doda district died of multiple ailments and Coronavirus in the GMC Jammu where she was under treatment since 12th October.
A 28-year-old Army soldier, who was killed in an accident at Shayok Valley in Tangtse area of Leh district in the Union Territory of Ladakh, tested positive for COVID-19 posthumously. He hailed from Telangana.
Jammu region now has 454 Corona casualties, the highest 236 being in Jammu district, 45 Rajouri, 41 Doda, 29 Kathua, 25 Udhampur, 24 Samba, 22 Poonch, 14 Kishtwar, 11 Ramban and seven in Reasi district.
Of total 247 Corona positive cases in the Jammu region, 116 hailed from Jammu district alone.
All 17 positives in Doda, eight Samba, 38 Kishtwar, 19 Ramban and four in Kishtwar district were locals while 12 out of 16 positive cases in Rajouri, nine of 10 in Udhampur, seven of eight in Kathua and nine of 11 in Poonch were locals and rest travelers.
Of 405 persons who recovered from the virus today, the highest 150 were from Jammu district followed by 73 in Poonch, 45 each Doda and Reasi, 36 Rajouri, 32 Kishtwar, 15 Udhampur, eight Kathua and one in Ramban district.
Jammu region now has 35053 Corona cases. Of them, 3538 are active positives while 31061 have recovered from the virus. There have been 454 Corona casualties.
Apart from one Corona casualty, the Union Territory of Ladakh has also reported 93 new positive cases including 92 in Leh district and one in Kargil.
With this, the Corona tally in Ladakh has gone up to 5534—3741 in Leh and 1793 in Kargil district. There are 933 active positives—766 in Leh and 167 in Kargil as 4535 patients have recovered from the virus—2947 in Leh district and 1588 in Kargil.
Ladakh has 66 Corona casualties—28 in Leh and 38 Kargil.
There were 69 persons admitted in COVID hospitals of Ladakh while 621 were in home isolation, 65 in COVID Care Centres and 160 Facility Isolation.
