SRINAGAR, May 16: Two tourists from Gujarat were killed after a Tavera vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge on the Pahalgam-Aru route in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district today.

Three others, including the driver, were injured in the accident and shifted to hospital for treatment.

An official said that the deceased were identified as Bawin Bhavsar, son of Mahesh Bhavsar, and Naina, both residents of Gujarat.
He said the two tourists were brought dead to Sub-District Hospital Pahalgam after the accident.
Three others injured in the mishap were identified as Awin Bhavsar, Ashok Naina, both residents of Gujarat, and driver Rayees Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, a resident of Rangward Laripora.
All the injured were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for treatment, officials said.
The official said the accident took place when the Tavera vehicle, bearing registration number JK21A-0379, was travelling from Pahalgam towards Aru and skidded off the road before plunging into the gorge.
Police have registered an FIR at Police Station Pahalgam and initiated further investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed his deep anguish and grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Aru, Pahalgam.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said: “I am deeply anguished by the road accident in Aru, Pahalgam, in which two tourists from Gujarat lost their lives and few others are injured. Directed senior officials to provide all possible support. My condolences to bereaved families. Praying for speedy recovery of the injured”.
