MENDHAR, Sept 14: A constable was placed under suspension after two thieves escaped from police lock up at Gursai Police Station in Mendhar last night.
Reports said Zahid Ali, son of Mohd Amin of Potha and Javed Iqbal, son of Abdul Qayoom, resident of Bahti Dhar, who were arrested by police escaped from Gurasai Police Station by breaking a ventilator last mid night. The police came to know about the matter in the morning and started search.
Zahid was later captured by villagers when he was found hiding in the cattle shed of one Mohd Sharief in Gursai area early morning. He was given good thrashing and later handed over to police. The other one was still at large.
The people of the area then held strong protest against police and demanded action against the cops responsible for it. They alleged that some masked men have created terror in the area and they were members of the same group indulging in lifting of children and extorting money from locals.
Later, Addl SP Poonch arrived there and assured action in this regard. He placed Santary Tazeem Ahmed under suspension and ordered inquiry against the role of Thana Munshi, Gopal Chand.
